The ruines of "BOIS-FROU", stand alone among the meadows that once were sumptuous gardens, now they open the doors of imagination to restore a disappeared mansion... The origins of this castle date back to the 14th century, then transformed into a Renaissance style castle after the 100 Years War. At this time it was decorated with beautiful water gardens. During works in 1966, two sarcophagi are discovered, one of which contains an embalmed heart!

La chapelle de Ste Radegonde-St Ortaire est aménagée dans une ancienne grange. Les fidèles ont démarré le rituel des cailloux guérisseurs: ils déposent une ou plusieurs pierres dans la chapelle ou dans les arbres autour pour espérer un miracle de guérison. Plus le mal est grand, plus la pierre doit être grosse. Le rituel veut que lorsque la pierre tombe d’elle-même, le malade est guéri. STE RADEGONDE - ST OTAIRE CHAPEL which is housed in an old barn. The faithful have started the ritual of healing stones: they place one or more stones in the chapel or in the trees around to hope for a healing miracle. The greater the evil, the larger the stone must be. The ritual dictates that when the stone falls by itself, the patient is healed.

L’abbaye Notre-Dame de Déols est une ancienne abbaye bénédictine, maintenant largement en ruines (fondée en 917, juste après l'abbaye de Cluny en Bourgogne). Tout comme son puissant modèle bourguignon, l'abbaye était placée sous l'autorité directe du pape (et non sous celle de l'archevêque). Le prestigieux passé médiéval ne livre pas tous ses secrets au premier coup d’œil, et c'est génial de les découvrir petit à petit. 1100 YEARS OF HISTORY Notre-Dame de Déols Abbey is a former Benedictine abbey, now largely in ruins (founded in 917, just after Cluny Abbey in Burgundy). Like its powerful Burgundian model, the abbey was placed under the direct authority of the Pope (and not that of the Archbishop). The prestigious medieval past doesn't reveal all its secrets at first glance, and it's great to discover them step by step.

The keep of Loches castle (early 11th C.) is one of the oldest stone dungeons. It is 37m tall and one of the best preserved in Europe today. Du bas vers le haut : le donjon du château de Loches (début 11ème s.) est l'un des plus anciens donjons de pierre. Haut de 37 m, c’est aussi l’un des mieux conservés en Europe aujourd’hui. Von unten nach oben: Der Bergfried von Burg Loches (frühes 11. Jh.) ist einer der ältesten Steinbergfriede. Er ist 37 m hoch und einer der am besten erhaltenen in Europa.

The old hall was built in 1592 and houses the weekly market. Chef-d'œuvre de charpente : la vieille halle a été construite en 1592 et abrite le marché hebdomadaire. Dachstuhl-Meisterwerk : die alte Halle wurde 1592 erbaut, heute findet hier der Wochenmarkt statt.

L’église Notre-Dame de Lignières est inscrite au "circuit des Eglises Romanes du Berry". Elle a été construite entre le 12ème et le 13ème siècle et consacrée en 1450 sous le nom de Notre-Dame de l’Assomption. The church Notre-Dame de Lignières is included in the "Berry Romanesque circuit". It was built between the 12th and the 13th C. and consecrated in 1450 under the name of Our Lady of the Assumption.

Basilique Notre-Dame-De-l'Epine (X.-XIV.), joyau d'architecture du Moyen Age ROMAN ou GOTHIQUE ? La basilique d'Evron hésite entre les deux styles et c'est sans doute ce mélange des genres qui lui confère son charme. Du 11ème siècle, elle a conservé sa tour carrée évoquant les châteaux forts moyenâgeux (voir photo suivante), son étonnante crypte et sa nef puissante et trapue. Le chœur, édifié au 13ème siècle, célèbre au contraire l'avènement du gothique. La basilique conserve un trésor dont la pièce maîtresse est une statue de Notre-Dame en chêne, recouvert de lames d’argent. ------------------------------------------ Notre-Dame-De-l'Epine Basilica (X.-XIV.), Architectural gem of the Middle Ages ROMAN or GOTHIC? The Evron basilica hesitates between the two styles and it is undoubtedly this mixture of genres that gives it its charm. The basilica retains a treasure, the centerpiece of which is an oak statue of Our Lady, covered with silver blades.

LA LEGENDE DE N-D DE L'EPINE : Selon la légende, un pèlerin, rapportant du lait de la Vierge de Terre Sainte, se serait endormi au pied d'une aubépine après y avoir suspendu la sacoche contenant la relique. A son réveil, l'arbre avait grandi et le pèlerin ne put attraper son bien. Hadouin, évêque du Mans, de passage en ce lieu, promit de construire un monastère sur place - et l'aubépine se courba ! Ainsi aurait été fondé Notre-Dame-de-l'Epine. THE LEGEND OF OUR-LADY-OF-THE-THORN: According to legend, a pilgrim, bringing back milk from the Virgin of the Holy Land, would have fallen asleep at the foot of a hawthorn after having hung the bag containing the relic. When he awoke, the tree had grown and the pilgrim could not catch his bag. Hadouin, bishop of Le Mans, passing through this place, promised to build a monastery on the spot and - the hawthorn bowed down! This is how "Notre-Dame-de-l'Epine" was founded...

Ce n'est pas une photo truquée, j'ai juste accentué les contrastes : le ciel s'est réellement montré dans cette explosion de couleurs. It's not a "fake" photo, I only accentuated the contrasts: the sky really showed these explosion of colours.

"Ma maison est mon château" dit le comte... Les parties les plus importantes du château de Flers (aujourd'hui mairie et musée) remontent au XVIe siècle. Il se situe dans un vaste étang entouré d'un grand parc et d'un espace forestier (voir PiP's). The most important parts of the castle of Flers (today town hall and museum) date back to the 16th century. It is located in a large pond surrounded by a vast park and a forest area (see PiP's).
