In 2015 Lake Guerlédan was totally dried up, revealing an astonishing landscape: frozen in the depths, the sunken valley resurfaced with its houses, its gardens, its locks, its dead trees...
The dam condition required the repairs of the sealing system to the upstream face and the renovation of the bottom valves and conduits.

En 2015 le lac de Guerlédan était totalement asséché, dévoilant un paysage étonnant: figé dans les profondeurs, la vallée engloutie refait surface avec ses maisons, ses jardins, ses écluses, ses arbres morts ...
L'état du barrage a nécessité la réparation du système d'étanchéité de la face amont et la rénovation des vannes et conduits inférieurs.

Lovely shot. The story and the earlier shots you took of this lake make the photo even more intriguing. I am glad to see the inset photos which will open up the story of the lakes' past to others who may not have seen the "drained lake" photos. I did not know you could add "hidden" inset pictures. Thanks Eric, this lake is really a great place in the center of Bretagne and showing a very unusual landscape. But the highlight was having seen it completely empty 3 years ago, it was fascinating.

A great photo accompanied by fine PiPs. This lake, must be like many around the world, built by man to collect water but drowning the villages that stood there before. A story that shows itself most sadly in China now. We here in England, not far from my home, also have such a reservoir with a drowned village called Derwent, now underneath Ladybower reservoir in Derbyshire. I have many photos of the reservoir but not here in Ipernity. Maybe I should rectify that. Thanks for sharing.

I am fascinated by these sunken places.Thanks for sharing the link, the most moving sights for me were the spire of Derwent's church emerging from the water after the valley was flooded and the pld photo with the people on the bridge which now doesn't exist any longer...

Merci Malik. Cette année-là, le barrage a été vidé au début du printemps (le 1er PiP montre l'état vers la fin avril), et remis à l'eau au début de l'automne. Et c'est là, sur les autres PiPs que l'on voit bien le sol asséché pendant l'été. Bon dimanche à toi.

Thanks Diana. Since its construction in 1923 it has been emptied every 10 years for technical reasons. The last time was in 2015 because now this work can be done by robots underwater.

Merci Pascal. Tu as raison, la dernière fois c'était bien en 2015, car maintenant l'entretien peut être effectué par des robots sous l'eau. Pour cette raison je suis vraiment heureuse d'avoir pu contempler cette vallée engloutie une dernière fois.... Bon dimanche à toi.

Früher fand hier auch Schifffahrt auf diesem Fluss statt. Im Vordergrund ist eindeutig eine Schifffahrtsschleuse zu erkennen. Lediglich die beiden Stemmtore fehlen.

Ja, da hast du recht. Das war der Kanal von Nantes nach Brest, an dem es viele Schleusen gab. Seit 1923 ist er von diesem Stausee überflutet, der alle 10 Jahre geleert wurde (zum letzten Mal 2015), und dann die versunkene Landschaft mit seinen Schleusen, Häusern, Bäumen usw. zeigt. Frohe Festtage nach Teltow.

Danke H-Marie. Es war aussergewöhnlich, diesen grössten See der Bretagne leer zu sehen. Wir waren öfters da in jenem Jahr : am Anfang des Frühlings, als nach und nach die Häuser, Schleusen, abgestorbenen Bäume usw wieder zum Vorschein kamen, dann im Sommer, als die Erde ausgetrocknet war und man bis zum Grund des Sees wandern konnte, und dann nochmal im Herbst, kurz bevor er wieder gefüllt wurde. Frohe Festtage.
