Aaargh Walls!!! (PiP)

Castle Stalker was built on it's own little island on Loch Laich an inlet off of Loch Linnhe near Appin in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland. Built in the 16th cenury for the Stewarts of Appin it is a four storey tower house in a beautiful setting and was once used as a hunting lodge for James IV. Indeed the Gaelic for Castle Stalker is Caisteal an Stalcaire, with Stalcaire meaning 'hunter' or 'falconer;'

Castle Stalker has been used in a number of films like 'Highlander - Endgame' and others, but will be instantly recognised by many as 'Castle Aaargh' from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. That fact alone is probably good enough reason to make this a 'Happy' Wall Wednesday!!!

Thank you very much Heide. Maybe not the biggest or most attractive of the castles but it's location alone makes it worth seeing. It must be one of the most photographed castles in Scotland I would think. Further along the road there is a cafe with views of the castle and there are always lots of people outside taking photos.

Thank you very much Wilhelm. That is a good while ago Wilhelm. We first visited in 2007. I must admit the landscape really sets the castle off to it's best advantage, - often castles are on hills but this one is on it's own little island. We were lucky that the weather was goood. On more recent visits the light hasn't always been as good and my photos have suffered from the lack of depth.

The light was good that day which made a difference as you have a better view of the landscape surrounding the castle, and the location is what makes it for me. Lovely comments - Thank you very much Tanja. It is really beautiful up there and I love it but don't think I could live there - I am not very good at freezing my butt off in winter!!! It would be lovely to see it covered in snow (Scotland that is and not my butt!!!) but living in it would not be for me!.

My kids would love the Monty Python connection. They were huge fans and used to quote from the films all the time and fall about laughing. My straight face would be enough to set them off all over again!!! They especially loved the Black Knight scene and would cry with laughter!
