Thank you very much Maggs. The locals never call it the Isle of Whithorn - simply using 'The Isle' and as Roger says it isn't actually an island at all!! It is a small fishing village built around a natural harbour. From the tower you can see the Lake District and the Isle of Man and it is worth the walk up there just for the view. From there you can look back across at the ruins of St Ninian's chapel

Thank you very much Roger. You are right, - not only is it a fishing village built around a natural harbour, and not as you say an island, but the locals never refer to it as the Isle of Whithorn but just 'The Isle'.
