Weißdorn: ein paar Vitamine gefälligst? Hawthorn: would you like some vitamins?

Now the small red fruits of the hawthorn (Crataegus spec.), of which there are three species in Germany but which are difficult to distinguish from each other, are shining again in many hedges (see also the PiP). The vitamin-rich fruits of the hawthorn are edible raw and taste sour-sweet, but are very mealy. They can be made into compote or jelly. According to the internet, tea made from the leaves and flowers is an effective remedy for heart and circulatory problems.
The hawthorn was voted in Germany herbal remedy of the year in 1990 and was medicinal plant of the year in 2019.
