Gerade bin ich dabei, meine älteren Fotos noch einmal anzuschauen und aufzuräumen. Dabei fand ich diese bislang unveröffentlichte Aufnahme, die ich bei einer Wanderung im Hochspessart nahe Lohr machte. Die Wälder im Spessart sind meistens von der Eiche und der Buche dominiert, Nadelbäume spielen keine große Rolle. Der Name Spessart leitet sich von "Specht" und "Hardt" (=Bergwald) her, er steht also für "Spechtswald". An vielen Stellen hat er ein urwaldähnliches Aussehen. Die Ausweisung als Nationalpark wird angestrebt.
Die rote Farbe des Felsens und des Wanderwegs beruht auf (rotem) Buntsandstein, der vorherrschenden Gesteinsart im östlichen Spessart.

I am currently looking through my older photos and cleaning them up. In the process, I found this previously unpublished photo, which I took during a hike in the Hochspessart near Lohr . The forests in the Spessart are mostly dominated by oak and beech, conifers do not play a major role. The name Spessart is derived from "woodpecker" and "Hardt" (=mountain forest), so it stands for "woodpecker forest". In many places it has a primeval forest-like appearance. The designation as a national park is being sought.
The red color of the rock and the hiking trail is based on red sandstone, the predominant type of rock in the eastern Spessart.
