Schau ins Land! Look into the country!

Today I took this photo during a hike in the Steigerwald near Iphofen. I show here a view through the Vogelsang vineyards to the small town of Markt Einersheim. In the background on the left is one of the higher mountains of the Steigerwald, namely Bullenheimer Berg (455 m). People have been cultivating vines around Einersheim since the early Middle Ages. Franconian settlers probably brought the grapevine to this area in the 7th century. In the Middle Ages, the region belonged to the largest contiguous wine-growing area in the Holy Roman Empire.
