Ein Kloster der "Gärtner Gottes" - A monastery of the "Gardeners of God"

Bronnbach Abbey in the lovely Tauber Valley near Wertheim was founded by the Cistercian Order in 1151. The abbey church, consecrated in 1222 and made of red sandstone (in the photo), is a three-nave basilica in late Romanesque and early Gothic style and is considered one of the most important former religious churches in southern Germany. The baroque furnishings of the abbey church contrast with the Cistercian architecture!
The Cistercians had enormous knowledge of natural processes for the time and were successful in agriculture and forestry, viticulture, cattle breeding, mill building and fish farming. They are also called the "gardeners of God". Their monasteries had an enormous influence on the development of the respective region.
