Weibchlicher Aurorafalter - Female Orange Tip - 2 PiP
At the moment the orange tips (Anthocharis cardamines) are flying in my garden. In the picture a female specimen that has just perched on a daisy flower. The females look like cabbage whites on the upper side (see PiP). They do not have the orange wingtips on the upper surface of the forewings like the males (see www .ipernity.com/doc/cammino/51283600). The underside has a typical piebald pattern with yellow, green, white and black (camouflage) colours as in the male. The female lays eggs on Cardamine pratensis, hence the species name. To protect the butterflies, you should not remove the garlic mustard from the edges of your garden, because it is an important forage plant for their caterpillars.
