Brüderchen und Schwesterchen - Common lungwort

Brüderchen und Schwesterchen ist der deutsche Trivialname für das Lungenkraut (Pulmonaria officinalis), einem Rauhblattgewächs, das im Frühjahr in ganz Europa blüht. Die Aufnahme entstand in einem Eichen-Mischwald.
Der eigenartige Trivialname beruht darauf, dass sich in einem Blütenstand rote und blaue Blüten befinden (siehe auch PiP). So ist die Blütenkrone jeder Blüte anfangs rot, färbt sich später während der Blühvorgangs allmählich (über Mischfarben) durch Änderung des pH-Wertes innerhalb der Blütenblätter nach Blau um. Die Blütenfarbe ist also ein Indikatorfarbstoff wie z.B. Lackmus, den meisten bekannt aus dem Chemie-Unterricht.
Das Gefleckte Lungenkraut wird seit dem Mittelalter gegen Lungenleiden eingesetzt. Hildegard von Bingen nennt es Lungwurz.

The peculiar trivial name is based on the fact that there are red and blue flowers in the inflorescence (also see PiP). Thus the corolla of each flower is red at the beginning, but gradually changes its colour (via mixed colours) to blue during the flowering process by changing the pH value within the petals. The colour of the flower is therefore an indicator colour like litmus, most of us know from chemistry lessons. The common lungwort has been used against lung diseases since the Middle Ages. Hildegard von Bingen calls it lungwort.
