Der Juliusturm, eines der Wahrzeichen Spandaus, ist 30 Meter hoch. Auf seine Spitze führt die berühmte Wendeltreppe, die 1964 nach dem Vorbild der neugotischen Treppe von 1843 rekonstruiert wurde. Wenn man die 153 Stufen erklommen hat, bietet sich ein Rundblick über Spandau und Umgebung, bis nach Tegel, zur Berliner Innenstadt und zum Grunewald. Lange Jahre diente er als Verlies für Staatsgefangene, bis 1918 wurde hier unter strenger Bewachung der „Reichskriegsschatz“ gelagert, Reparationsgelder Frankreichs nach dem Krieg 1870/71.

If you reach the top level of the Julius Tower (just 153 steps!), you will be rewarded with a magnificent view. From the top, the view of the fortress complex and the river Havel takes the breath away. In good weather you can see as far as the Berlin TV Tower.
The treasury door which visitors pass through to enter the tower is a reminder that the “Reichskriegsschatz” (Imperial War Treasure) was stored behind the 3.6-metre thick walls after the Franco-German War of 1870-71.
