Die Islandschafe sind oft auf oder direkt neben den Strassen anzutreffen! Die Vorfahren dieser Rasse wurde vor etwa 1100 bis 1200 Jahren von den Wikingern nach Island gebracht.
Sie sind sehr kälteresistent (und sie werden nie geschoren).
Die Schafe dienen heute fast ausschliesslich zur Fleischgewinnung, das Fleisch ist sehr schmackhaft.
