Charleroi - Piscine Mosque - 1
The so called "Piscine Mosque" is a spectacular Art Deco Building in Charleroi. It's a must for all urban explorers. It was erected in 1938 as a swimming bath, restaurant and theater for the employees of a big factory. In 1994 the piscine was sold to an university which closed the swimming pool in 1998 using only the cafeteria and the theater from then on. 2004 the building was sold to a mosque club who started to convert it. Building materials from this time, which gave the piscine it’s name in urbex circles, are lying around everywhere but it is highly unlikely that it will be finished. Things are the way, that weapons where found in the mosque and the preachers of the mosque club, which where also known for hate speech, where arrested and reportedly sent out of country. Since then the building is abandoned and has been vandalized while slowly rotting away. The following short series was taken on a rainy day last September. If you search in the internet, you can find much better images than mine, I have to admit, especially from the entrance hall and staircase.

It looks very dramatic in B/W, especially with that gloomy sky. I love the detail you've captured too. A cracking shot Berny!

I'm posting a series about a location very often and mention this almost everytime at the first image.
