The Brenner Highway
The Brenner Highway is the most important traffic artery between Germany and Italy. Almost one third of it runs via bridges as to be seen in the background of the picture.
But more than 2.000.000 trucks per year cause high pollution in the Austrian alp valleys: "Beside, underneath and above the Brenner hightway the nature is ailing step by step. 140 metric tons of pollutants per kilometer are stressing the nature. In wintertime up to 84 kilogrammes of salt per meter (!) are dispersed." www.spiegel.de/spiegel/print/d-13523735.html
Nevertheless climbing within the fixed rope route Stafflach Cliff (St. Jodok, Austria) is pleasing!
~~~~~
Als wichtigste Verkehrsader zwischen Deutschland und Italien durchquert die Brenner-Autobahn die Alpen. Fast ein Drittel der Strecke verläuft über Brücken, wie die im Hintergrund gezeigte im Wipptal bei Gries, kurz vor der Grenze nach Südtirol.
Jährlich fahren mehr als 2 Millionen LKWs über die Autobahn: "Neben, unter und über der Brenner-Autobahn siecht die Bergnatur langsam dahin. 140 Tonnen Schadstoffe pro Autobahn-Kilometer, bis zu 84 Kilogramm Salz pro Autobahn-Meter im Winter gehen auf die Landschaft nieder." www.spiegel.de/spiegel/print/d-13523735.html
Das Klettern in der Stafflacher Wand (St. Jodok, Österreich) macht dennoch Freude.
