Around The Corner From Anywhere ...
This scene was captured for this week's Sunday Challenge, which had the theme of what's left.
I spotted this discarded can lying against the perimiter fence of Allertonshire school in Northallerton and thought it ideal for the challenge. I also liked the crispness of the brand on what appeared to be a fairly new can and the surrounding shadows, which I hoped would give the shot some interest.
Sadly, although Coke has been around since 1886 and been generally available in cans since 1960, many people still struggle it seems to either deposit the empty cans in a litter bin or take it home for recycling.
And so I felt the slogan that the company used way back in 1927 to promote the product provided an ideal title for my shot, as this photograph really could have been taken around the corner from anywhere.

autofantasia club has replied to Don Sutherland clubMy house is on a taxi route and I collect a large bin worth of cans, and discarded hamburger foam packs per week - our locals appear to have no concept of littering at all!
Great shot!

I can when I was a kid they did that over here and we'd go around just looking for empty bottles to be able to claim the deposit back. Sadly, I don't think that happens today! :(
Clickity Click has replied to autofantasia club(I bet this would look just as great with the Coke can s/c'd)
autofantasia club has replied to Shuttering YukonSince we have deposit on beverage cans there are no more so many discarded, but still lots of coffee-to-go-cups and fast food litter! The same everywhere! :(
autofantasia club has replied to Dida From AugsburgAs for the deposit thing, when I was growing up they did that with bottles, but never with cans, and even with bottles I'm pretty sure they stopped it years ago! :(
autofantasia club has replied to H CSeriously, when I was growing up they did that with bottles in the UK, but never with cans, and even with bottles I'm pretty sure they stopped it years ago! :(

We'd find really gross ones with cigarette butts and slugs in them, but we would gather them up and head to the nearby little store and claim our prizes; a penny for the small bottles and a whole nickel for the bigger ones. Oh the candy we would buy! (You brought back a great memory with this. ;)
