Live To Ride ...

Live To Ride ...
The theme this week for The Sunday Challenge was shoot a stranger.

More often than not I like to take a new photo for the challenge, but this week I decided to look through my archives and find some previously 'unpublished' shots that might suit the topic.

This one was taken at Northallerton Rugby Club when the Harley-Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain used it to stage their North East Rally back in 2013.

Unlike the vast majority of car/bike shows that I attend this one wasn't open to the public - it was more an event for members with entertainment laid on over the weekend. However, I had a word with the guys on the gate to see if they thought people would mind if I went in to take some photos and they kindly agreed to let me do so.

The man in this shot was one of the first people I met and, like everyone else there, he made me feel welcome and not at all ill at ease. No real surprise though to me as I mixed with a great many real biker types during my young adult life. In fact, my best man when we got married was an ex-biker.

Anyway, back to the shot in question. I was quite happy with it in colour, but decided the subject matter might lend itself to the mono treatment, which is the route I ended up taking.

Hope you guys like it?

Steve Roter, Berny, , and 20 other people have particularly liked this photo

A wondefful portrait of a man and his very nice bike! I do like like this image in mono; it brings out some of the lines and details that color would distract away from.

Thanks Valerie ... I guess you're right as the tent and so on might have been more distracting in colour. I'll try and upload the colour version into notes so you can see the difference! :)

What a great photo Paul. He looks so "cute" (don't tell him I said that.) ;)

I actually married a biker from way back and have known many too. I have found that beneath that tough exterior hides a soft and sweet person usually.

Sounds like you had a great time with this group.

Great bike, friendly biker but I've noticed the tent in the background - was is it for him or his bike? For both it seems too small! ;-DD

Nice selection for TSC!

Just for him I think ... though I did know someone once who had a tent to put his hot rod into when attending shows! ;)
