@Roland - I think it's maybe for Jews who have a tradition of eating out in Chinese restaurants (in my childhood, the saying went that you could tell a Jewish neighborhood by the number of Chinese restaurants there - of course, today Chinese restaurants are ubiquitous in the US). Cynics say that the reason was that the style of cooking - everything chopped up - allowed Jews to satisfy a yen for pork - the quintessential forbidden fruit - without feeling guilty: "Nu, gey veys az s'iz geven khazerfleysh!" [Well, how could I tell there was pork in it?] -- Another theory is that we got hooked on Chinese restaurants bcs they were the only ones open on Christmas eve.
