Mahnmal für die Opfer des Nationalsozialismus

Mahnmal für die Opfer des Nationalsozialismus
SSC: something in the shape of a cube

The memorial by Elmar Daucher consists of 4 black granite blocks. Between the blocks on a granite slab are words by Ernst Bloch:

1933-1945
Verfemt Verstossen Gemartert (outlawed outcast tortured )
Erschlagen Erhängt Vergast (slain hanged gassed)
Millionen Opfer (millions of victims)
Der Nationalsozialistischen Gewaltherrschaft (of the Nazi tyranny )
Beschwören Dich: ( implore you: )
Niemals wieder! (Never again!)

Many have forgotten, or denied such things in the first place. It's a shocking time...

In the next generation history lessons got fewer and were sacrificed for other subjects considered more important, resulting in an apolitical generation whose mantra is me, me, me. Thankfully the next generation reacts in protest now.

I hate that German schools and universities think they have to imitate the Anglosaxons- away from "Allgemeinbildung" towards "Fachidioten". Of course someone who's brilliant in a very narrow field and knows next to nothing about anything else is much more easily led...

Everything you say is spot-on, Gudrun. I once knew a very smart architect, graduated from Stanford University (very prestigious here). He was shockingly stupid about anything but architecture. It is hard to even have a conversation with someone like that!

It's a pity, isn't it! In former times architects were creative people who had a broad knowledge of many things- in the tradition of Leonardo da Vinci....
