Langer Jammer

Der Abschnitt der Wakenitz entlang der früheren innerdeutschen Grenze wird seit jeher Langer Jammer genannt, weil er so schmal ist, dass kaum aufgekreuzt und wegen der zugewachsenen Ufer auch nicht getreidelt werden konnte.

The stretch of Wakenitz river along the former inner-German border has long been called Langer Jammer (long lament) because it's too narrow to sail against the wind and the shoreline is unsuitble for towing.

Ruesterstaude ^club

Da bin ich vor 2 Jahren auch mit dem Schiffchen bis zum Ratzeburger See durchgefahren und erinnere mich gern daran. Die DDR-Grenze hat - so makaber auch sich das anhört - die Natur geschützt und wertvolle Nischen hinterlassen. -
Warst du auch am Grenzdenkmal (--> Mahnmal), Gudrun? Wenn man das sieht, läuft einem natürlich ein Schauer über den Rücken.

Die Landschaft sieht wunderschön aus, Gudrun. Anfang der 90er gab es auch für mich tatsächlich eine früher für unmöglich gehaltene Schifffahrt auf der Wakenitz bis Lübeck.

Vielen Dank, Karin! Das mit dem langen Jammer haben sie bei der Bootsfahrt erzählt;-) Ich war vom 19.-23. Juni in Lübeck, aber hatte zeit für nichts, konnte Fotos nur nebenher machen, denn Familientreffen sind anstrengend- Oma-Hüten etc,-)
Eine schöne Ecke zum Wohnen hast du da! Wir sind mit dem Bus dorthin....

Thanks a lot, Peter! It's really worth a visit! You could do a tour from Lübeck along the Baltic coast, visiting the other Hanse towns like Wismar, Rostock, Stralsund etc. The island of Rügen is worth an extra holiday as are the Mecklenburg Lakes.
