Starburst

Starburst
SSC: This week let's create our own "Starburst" image.

As I only returned home last night, just a quick and dirty handheld photo of my chandelier. I used f/22 to get the starburst and converted the photo to mono using Slver Efex.

The number of rays on the stars depends of the number of aperture blades in the lens. The 24-70 has an odd number (9 blades) which creates 18 rays whereas the 24-105 lens I used in the inset archive photo has an even number (8 blades) and so the starburst shows only 8 rays.

Whoa... those are two wonderful types of starbursts and I appreciate your explanation of how the blades affect the outcome. These little starbursts can become addictive, I think. :)

Thanks very much, Karen! Actually, I have never been that happy with the 8-ray-starburst, I thought it looked a bit measly;-) I'm glad the new lens is better that way.
