What I thought, when I viewed the thumbnail, were jagged rocks on the shore, turn out to be lumps of ice. A perfect title for a sad state of affairs, Gudrun. The light on the black pearl beach is dramatic.

Thank you so much, Amelia! Indeed the glacial melt is quite alarming, the glacial lagoon not far from this beach wasn't there half a century ago and is getting bigger every year. With the loss of ice also comes an uptick in volcanism, the mantle plume is directly under Vatnajökull.
