Guanaco

Guanaco
Guanacos are camelids native to South America. They can be found in arid areas like the Altiplano and Patagonia. In Argentinean Patagonia you usually only see them running from a distance whereas in Torres del Paine they are protected and therefore more numerous and less shy.

Lovely colours and light on the fur Gudrun (especially the light fringe on the ears). Nice background separation.

Thanks a lot, John! They are amazing- standing in the middle of the road sometimes! If you stay in the car they will stay...

Herzlichen Dank, Ko!

Thanks a lot, Roger! They often stand like that, pricking up their ears. Once they start laying them back it's better to keep out of spitting distance;-)

Many thanks, Carol! They are among my favourite animals. In Torres del Paine you are sure to see a lot of them.

An absolutely delightful photo. Your nearest model was both posing and pouting for the camera.

Thanks very much, Neil! They seem to be posing, don't they.-) Actually, in the herds there's always one animal on the lookout that alarms the others when it sees something dangerous (there are pumas, though you usually don't see them)

Thanks a lot, Esther! Guanacoas aren't as shy in the park as they are elsewhere.
