Sh*t happens
Accident at the foot of Bolivia's highest mountain, Nevado Sajama (6542m).
Since Bolivia lost the province of Antofagasta and its access to the sea in the late 19th century Guerra del Pacífico, most freight goes from La Paz along Ruta 4 to the border at Tambo Quemado/ Chungará and down to the Chilean port of Arica.
Bolivia still has a Navy (on Lake Titicaca) and annually celebrates Día del Mar. Negotiations with Chile about a corridor the the sea drag along but have never come to a result.

Vielen Dank, Lothar! Nein, alles nur Sachschäden, aber nicht zu knapp... Alle mussten sich irgendwie durch die Pampa links dran vorbeiquetschen.

Ja, der war wohl zu schnell, die Achse ist hinüber;-) Das ist eine der größten und am besten ausgebauten Strassen im Land! Für etwas bessere Strassen muss man in Bolivien meist zahlen- und etwas bessere kann auch Schotterpiste bedeuten!

Besten Dank, cammino! Es schien nichts Schlimmes passiert zu sein. Von den schlimmen Unfällen haben wir nur die vielen Gedenktafeln gesehen, vor allem in Chile...

Vielen Dank, Maik! Offensichtlich keine Personenschäden, Achsbruch meinte unser Fahrer... Ja, der Sajama ist ein sehr imposanter Berg, auch mit Wolken. Leider wird der Gletscher drauf immer weniger.

uije, aber wenigstens vor einer schönen hintergrundkulisse und "nur" sachschaden. über die geschichte mit dem meerzugang habe ich erst kürzlich in den medien gelesen. da werden sie bei den chilenen aber auf granit beißen (so es dort welchen gibt).

Vielen Dank, Berny! Die Kulisse war klasse, der kaputte Laster "interessant"...
Ja, so schätze ich das auch ein, weder die Chilenen noch die Peruaner werden den Bolivianern nur einen Meter abgeben... Und die Arica-La Paz- Eisenbahn, die damals als "Entschädigung" gebaut wurde, ist seit langem stillgelegt. Ab und zu kommen Gerüchte auf, dass die wieder aktiviert werden soll, aber das wird sicher auch nichts...

Thanks, George! If only the driver had his eyes on the road... There wasn't much traffic at the time and with 4x4 it wasn't a problem passing off road;-)

Dankschee.-) Ja, da hat der Fahrer wohl Ärger bekommen...aber besser als ein paar hundert Meter einen Abhang runterstürzen.

Gerade Strecke, gute Übersicht, wahrscheinlich wenig Verkehr - und dann das.
Man glaubt es nicht, aber das soll vorkommen.
Haben wir in Australien auch schon vom Hören-Sagen vernommen...

Vielen Dank, Udo! Die Lastwagen fahren vom Hafen in Arica (Chile) auf über 4000 Meter hoch, die Fahrer sind oft übermüdet, haben gerade die Grenze/ Zoll hinter sich- naja.... Es ist die Hauptstrecke nach La Paz für Güterverkehr.
