HFF Tintagel North Cornwall 22nd September 2023
The new English Heritage footbridge over the gorge to Tintagel Castle looking from the castle side. The steps on the left are the original route across and are now used as the exit for those fit enough to use them!
Recent excavations found the remains of structures from the Dark Ages, including well-constructed buildings of relatively large size dated to the 5th and 6th centuries, with pottery and glass finds indicating that the people who lived at Tintagel were of an upper class status, drinking wine imported from the eastern Mediterranean and using food vessels from North Africa and Gaul. In 2017, archaeologists discovered at the castle a 7th century slate window ledge inscribed with a mixture of Latin, Greek, and Celtic words, names, and symbols. Maybe King Arthur & Camelot did exist...
HFF to everyone & have a great weekend.
