The Sunday Challenge: Your garden
The Sunday Challenge: In the garden. A twig from a willow which was blown on my balcony during yesterday's violent summer storm. In my neighbourhood one other tree fell. Taken a few hours after the storm calmed down.
The storm raged through parts of the country. It was the heaviest storm in July since 1901, on the coast Beaufort 10 was reached. One man was killed as he was in a car when a big tree fell on it, many many other trees fell as they were full in leaf and heavy because of the rain.
It was advised not to be outside. The Hague was cut off because all major motorways were blocked by fallen trees, it could be taken quite symbolic as the national government is in The Hague ;-). In Amsterdam trams and metro didn't ride, busses were diverted because of blocked roads. Many festivals and other outdoor activities were cancelled. On Schiphol airport many flights were cancelled and some very bumpy landings were reported.
In the note the tree which fell yesterday afternoon. Early this morning (5 am) the street was deblocked by the use of chainsaws.
