Argentina - Maimará, Paleta del Pintor

Maimará is a small village in the heart of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a UNESCO world Heritage site. The main characteristic of its landscape are the multicolored hills of the so called Paleta del Pintor (Painter’s Palette), an impressive geological formation made up of multicoloured - brownish, reddish, orangish, yelowish, ocher and pastel colours - hills reminiscent of a painting palette. A series of folds that correspond to the tertiary and quaternary periods.

Fabulous photos, the geology in this area is amazing! The river seems to have taken away the bridge... A huge difference to when I visited there, we travelled near the end of the dry season.

Such an amazing landscape...............and a splendid series Jaap. The main image is gorgeous and viewed large it's easy to see the geological formations you describe. The colour palette is fascinating.

It good to have the person in the shot for scale. It looks like some repairs to the bridge will be needed before the rain returns!

Very interesting Jaap.
It reminds me of Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight where the cliffs have multi-colouredcoloured sand. These sands are used to make glass ornaments filled with layers of different colours.
