Charleston Peak (11,916 ft/3632 m)

Aka Mt. Charleston. Highest point in the Spring Mountains, Nevada, which lie west of Las Vegas. Now the centerpiece of the Mt. Charleston Wilderness, which is within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

Thanks! It's not granite but limestone. The Spring Mountains are entirely sedimentary rock, with the highest parts mostly Paleozoic limestone.

Thanks! People are often surprised that mountains of this size are in the immediate vicinity of Vegas. As you might imagine, it's a traditional area to escape from the desert heat! There are some summer cabins and such, but much is now designated wilderness.
