Franceschina Prevosti by Van Bosch (2)
Franceschina Prevosti (1866-1938); Italian soprano.
She started her career in 1887 in Italy and very soon she gained a great reputation because of her beautiful rendition of Violetta in "La Traviata". She performed this role at all the leading Italian opera theaters including La Scala in Milan and Teatro Constanzi in Rome. Verdi himself was deeply impressed by her vocal and acting performance. She received much support in her career from Queen Margherite of Italy, who had a great admiration for her. In 1890 she came -with an Italian Opera Company- to Berlin for the first time and aroused great admiration, especially as Violetta at the Kroll Oper. She made triumphal guest appearances at Munich, Stuttgart, Vienna, Moscow, Dresden, Hamburg, Zürich, Prague, Brno, Riga, Rotterdam, Zagreb, Venice, Florence Rome, Naples, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Bucarest and Mexico-City. In 1912 she retired from the stage and settled down as a vocal teacher in Berlin. One of her pupils was Beate Malkin (1892-1973).
