Three things really caught my eye: 1) the chap with the metal detector ... in the middle of a town (?), 2) the chimney stack and 3) I'd forgotten about the fantastic architecture of the parish church and specifically of its spire!
A wonderful shot, Howard!

Thanks. The "metal detector" is actually a white stick (the man is partially-sighted).

Does the man take photos? I've heard it said that some partially sighted people are helped by photography, as it enables them to see the views that they cannot see in real life.

I've never seen him use a camera or smartphone, so I doubt it.

And Roy's crop places the church too far to the left of the frame, and loses the lantern together with the building on the left which with the one on the right nicely "bookend" the points of interest.

Besides which, the shot has already been cropped as much as it can be; the composition having been beyond the range of the LX100's zoom.

I guessed you were contriving to include the lantern, but that has meant including the ugly roof ends as well, plus the gap down the side of the church. (Roof ends gone now.)

The chimney is the main point of interest here, so the church forms a perfectly adequate 'bookend' without needing additional features, which simply leave the picture looking cluttered.

Forget the lantern (which doesn't show up too well anyway) and home in on the important bits.

The important bits are the chimney and the church.

Yes, of course. But the church acts as a 'bookend' to the chimney, so doesn't need the superfluous wall, lantern, and roof corners to detract from it.

I agree also the eye is drawn by the buildings left and right to the point of interest which is the Church and Chimney.

You must have better tunnel vision than me, John, as my eye is irritated by the incongruous roof corners on the left and the solo red brick on the right.

Those irritants have been edited out. Happy?

This picture, for all its faults, has been a big 'hit' on Flickr, with almost 8,000 views and 200 faves in 3 days. Just wish I'd taken it with the new camera, which would have given me higher image quality, even if it had meant lugging it around with me all day.

I have only just seen your last comment. Yes, it's definitely improved with those ugly roof ends edited out, and the irritating red brick. I wouldn't trust those Flickr psychophants, though.
