A giant field mushroom.
This would have made a superb course for 4 people of mushroom on toast, gently fried in butter and with chopped parsley, on sourdough toast maybe. But I couldn't pick it, it looked so at peace here. I left it alone.

Andy Rodker club has replied to Jenny McIntyre clubThe field mushrooms I used to pick in the horse field befind the Gurnard's Head Pub for breakfast were of similar size (I'd say side-plate sized) and fed the landlord, his wife and me more than adequately, cooked as I described in the notes, but on ordinary toast. A mushroom this size is surprisingly filling!
