For John Fitzgerald; 1970s and 80s blocks of flats in Chamartin, Madrid
John, these were the building styles to which I was referring (the shot was going to be for a Friday, but I decided against it). These are actually a little bit posher and certainly more expensive, as they are a little closer to the centre, than the ubiquitous suburban blocks.
The green area looks pleasant enough but it is wasteland and is a dirty yellow colour for 11 months of the year.

These buildings definitely seem superior to the ones you described before. The variety of styles probably helps. Identikit buildings are less interesting than mixed buildings, even when the Identikit buildings are individually more attractive -- they give the eyes less to do. These are good buildings, though, to my mind.
We're used to yellow grass here. One of mu neighbours described spring as the brief period between the snow disappearing and the grass turning yellow. This year, though the grass is still green.
The green space still seems better maintained than the railings you posted before.
You are quite right; these are superior and more varied to my description of the mono-suburban mass-architecture blocks just a little further out.
Your neighbour's description of spring would apply equally here. And, as we had more rain than snow this winter, the grass is still green here too.
This is space awaiting development. It has been like this ever since the Great Spanish Construction Boom of 1995 - 2008 ground to its sudden halt. There are a vast number of these spaces all over Madrid, many still with their cranes left standing there; frozen in time and space. Many such sites are more derelict looking than this I grant you!
