Kiger Stadium, built 1947 and still in use
Built 1947 and still in use by the local baseball team, the Gems. It is one of only two all-wood, functioning baseball stadiums left in the USA. My father played baseball here in the late 1940s. Diane, you have sent me on a research journey -- we have a ballpark here --

It was moved from Danville, VA and put together in 1958 -- still can't locate the original construction date ...

A very nice park -- reminds me of Bradenton, FL where the Pirates hold Spring Training .. McKechnie Field .. it has been re-furbished since I last drove by...

Hi, Peggy - nice parks! I admit I'm not crazy about baseball, but it reminds me of my dad, so I love the old parks. Thanks!

Must admit that I love Minor League baseball [ Spring Training in Florida - The Grapefruit League with pro teams was fine ] ...
But loved watching the guys in the Minors who were really hungry to move up .... can recall many who played Minor League [ Florida State League ] and made it to the Major League in Detroit.
Bob and I would watch them on tv .. '' hey, what year did we see them in FL ''?
Some think the pace of the game isn't good - it suits me fine. Just sit back and enjoy .. hoping you don't have an adult chatterbox nearby !

You're a genuine fan, then, Peggy! I have only seen one major league game in my life and a couple of Little League games, but no minors. Yes, it's definitely slow, but gives you time to think - unlike basketball! I kind of can't stand football. Anyway, this summer I'm determined to take my grandson to a Klamath Falls Gems game. I don't think my granddaughter would have the patience, even though she's just as athletic as her brother. (No, they do NOT get it from me!)

Wonder how many coats of paint have been added since the late 1940's?

Oh boy, I can't imagine! I'll bet some of the siding has been replaced, too.
