In complete agreement regarding plastic pollution! I do however like your presentation for the challenge. I keep thinking it would make an interesting Orb. :)

Gudrun,

I found a few suggestions to recycle plastic straws. can't get a link to the page in the magazine. Plus l'm not sure how well translation would work to make it understandable. I wanted to post it for Chrissy !

1. Jewelry Saver - thread a necklace through the straw and clasp it together -- keeps from getting tangled.

2. Wrap the end of any type of tape around the straw to keep it from sticking to itself. If you store tape by stacking them, cut the straw to size of the tape.

3. Fold a plastic straw in half and place it in the sip hole of a takeout coffee cup to avoid spills while riding in a car, or train etc.

4. Save some space in your overnight bag by filling a clean plastic straw with a couple pumps of lotion or serum. Push one end of the straw into the other end and secure.

5. Put short stemmed flowers into plastic straws to add height to them when in a taller vase.

The sooner they go the better. I don't think I've ever used one but I like what you've done with these. I'm trying to look at the plastic in my life just now. I don't use bags and I've gone back to using bar soap but it's so ubiquitous it's hard to escape.
