Scotton Mill on the River Nidd
We are walking in the River Nidd Gorge further west of Knarsborough,at the site of the old Scotton Mill. I am actually stood on the old weir which until recently, I was told, always had a fine flow of water pouring down its right bank. Flooding and a change in the river course has changed all of that now.

Now this looks very interesting. I'm guessing it's completely abandoned now, and judging by the debris on the river bank, the change in the river course was a man made one! Give it a year or so and either nature will take over, or someone will knock it all down and build a posh house!

I like the composition Herb..........the old weir makes a great leading line to the mill. The sky and surrounding trees are beautiful and you've captured some fine detail throughout!

Hi Keith. I think that first building might have had a real connection to the mill but the others are all Des-Res's now. I think the left side was dammed to control water to a water wheel whilst the river proper ran over the weir to the right. Tries some research on the web but nothing concrete found. I talked to a dog walker who furnished the info about the original river course.
