Saddleworth Church from Wharmton Hill.

Saddleworth Church from Wharmton Hill.
The Parish church of St Chadds in Uppermill has always looked most attractive standing well outside the village high up the valley. The bells still toll regularly here and I see the building often as a very nice eating pub (The Church Inn) stands in the church square seen here to the right of the church itself. This Georgian building was built c1830 but a church has sat at this site since 1215 AD.
Another chance to see the lines of our dry-stone walls too, so typical of this area.

Enjoy the day in peace. Herb

An enchanting landscape full of bucolism. It must be beautiful to hear the bells of that church. Warm greetings, Anton.

It has a fine and varied tone my friend. The bell ringers are quite keen and good.

Fine shot and notes, Herb.
I would love to have a pub lunch at the Church Inn. Pubs are one of the things I miss most here in Spain. I haven't had a pint of bitter for so long now that I have almost forgotten what it tastes like (but not quite, hence the ongoing unrequited desire!).

I feel for you Andy. I know Spain is great for taking a seat in the sun and watching the world go by but they are quite different to the traditional English pub, which this is. I do remember the days though when this pub was best and only known for its fine and large collection of real ales. Nowadays, it always looks the same as in Spain, ie that most of the income is through meals.

Keep safe and carry in with the recovery. Herb

Thank you, Herb!
Yes, I'm aware pubs need to be restaurants these days just to survive but when I go back to Cornwall (sadly 4 years ago was the last time and this year will be out as well) I like the local pubs there, some of which still seem to be traditional pubs and some still manage to do so even without becoming a restaurant. How they do it I have no idea! Mind you, it's only the inland and out of the tourist zone pubs that do this, and it's true that many have closed down seemingly forever. I can't think of a single coastal pub that isn't now first and formost a restaurant. My two favourite pubs, The Gurnard's Head and The Tinner's Arms, both in Zennor are good restaurants but fortunately have retained a trad pub atmos too!

Thanks Gordon. Yes a cosy but sizable pub with several sections. Some three log fires at times too. Great pub food and as you say it can get busy. A long time since I was here at night so it may be different then.

Cheers. Herb

A beautiful green landscape Herb...............and I bet it looks much better when the trees still have all their leaves. I like your composition and the church makes a super focal point.

I like all the old dry stone walls in the background too. Nicely captured!

Yes very green from here Keith. Looks different with leaves and also snow. I have not been up on this hill many times and so do not have many others from here at different seasons. An old traditional church makes the scene for sure along with these walls of course.

Keep safe. Herb

I haven't come across another pub named The Church Inn Herb. Quite unusual I would think. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and I bet it changes with the seasons.
A beautifully captured shot.
