Briksdalsbreen Glacier remembered

Briksdalsbreen Glacier remembered
A look at Briksdalsbreen Glacier and its lake in Norway, taken in Aug 2005. We travelled to this from Olden, on Nordfjord and was astounded by the beauty of it. See PiP
Unfortunately, we see it here before its impending death! - I was astonished to see yesterday, that this view has almost disappeared in the 14 years since we were here, due presumably to global warming. I did in fact manage to get underneath the ice here too. Only the very top is now visible as ice but the modern visitor have a few splendid waterfalls from the melting top of this in Summer.
See the decline of the glacier here.
Another from my Panoramio collection.
PIP. Enjoy full size.

Sarah P., , Berny, Annalia S. and 24 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thank you Herb for the falling leaves.
It is an exemplary case of things that were.
Sorry for the uncut words but I do have too many of them (languages) in my origins which are peanuts to justify this line. But I think that you will understand.
Enjoy e very peaceful and light Sunday

Wow! This is a stunning shot Herb! The light is fantastic and it has brought out the superb colours and textures in the ice. I especially like the reflection and the people in shot for scale.

It's sad to think that this particular view will never be seen again :-(

Awesome close up detail in the PiPs too. Great work my friend.

Hi Keith. Quite amazing what this little Canon Ixus could do, and I still have it here -almost redundant now. It was quite a trip with a few spectacular captures taken. I loved the greeny blue ice and water reflections here. I also scrambled up part of the glacier and ducked underneath at one point but sadly did not take a photo of that event -or at any case -kept one. Yes, it was sad to see the demise of this on the latest Internet photos of it. Maybe one day it will be like this again but unlikely in our lifetime. Glad you enjoyed the pip.

Herb, both of your pictures are totally spectacular! The colors and depth of tone are wonderful and so richly detailed. Glaciers are truly amazing, aren't they? I am crushed beyond words to learn that this glacier is gone. It's so heartbreaking. I cannot bear to read about such destruction because it totally wrecks me. There is something to be said of turning your head away from terrible things you cannot fix or even help. I am much too sensitive...so I quickly turn the page, click away, leave the site, etc, if I run into something bad which I cannot do a thing about and only makes me upset.

Thanks for the lovely pictures though, they are such a fine memorial!

And also, thank you very much for the visit to my last presentation, I'm glad you enjoy the images, and yes I know...I am always writing War and Peace for my descriptions and it's not possible to keep up with my babbling, but some folks actually DO make the time...don't know how they find it! :D Personally it's really kind of like writing a book a page at a time so it works out! :)

Have a lovely rest of your weekend!

Hi Janet, great to see you here again. yes when one sees our beautiful nature dying like this, it is heartbreaking. In that, we are together in being upset when we see and read about such things my friend. Very happy though that you have enjoyed these two photos which are getting old now.

So sorry about divulging that I had not read your 'War & Peace' blog with your spectacular photos. In fact I told a little lie, inasmuch, I do in fact read much of what you write and it is always most informative and often amusing. As you will have seen, I can hardly say too much about long descriptions nor comments as, as many of my visitors would also say, I write much to much perhaps :) So don't let me discourage you from your writings of which I wonder if you publish elsewhere too. Carry on the good work.

Best Wishes, Herb

Two stunning images Herb. I fear that many of us have taken/are taking images that will never be replicated. Daily I'm reminded that grandson's future will probably be very difficult - glad I'm the age I am ...

In your comment, we share our lives and thoughts Maggs. Many of my older captures spots have changed almost beyond recognition. We too fear for the World of our grandchildren and their offspring. - Glad you liked these images just the same.

Marvellous glacial images and I love the reflections in your main shot, Herb. It really is disconcerting that glaciers are disappearing globally as a result of climate change. I'm afraid Maggs is all too correct!

Good to see you George. You, more than most, have sen our world at its extremes. I bet there is an awful lot of Antarctica missing since you was last there. Although I write and think about the dangers of GW I still drive a big old diesel car - time for a change soon!

You captured this beautiful glacier very well. What I like the most is the wonderful reflection. The people in the picture show how big this glacier is. The PiP is great too.

I know where you are coming from Susanne. The reflections were stunning. As you say the folk gave good scale too but the glacier reached far higher than this snap shows. I think you too will have seen other such scenes around our world, changing rapidly for the worse!
