Pencil Nebula NGC 2736

Pencil Nebula NGC 2736
This is what I have slowly been working towards. This is a Narrow Band Photo of the Nebula But a RGB set of stars on top. RGB stars are in effect the normal stars you get when you take a photo with a one shot colour camera or a DSLR. the Narrow Band stars all very different colours whereas RGB stars look more natural. The other thing you can see the rainbow effect that the solid front spider gives to the flares on the star.

The key is to have all the files stack together so they are the same size work on the narrow band throw away the stars. Work on the RGB throw away the background combine the Narrowband Nebula and the RGB stars to make the final photos.

This has used all the filters to make the two photos to make one. The big advantage of this is the amount of detail that the Narrow band filters bring out than you get with a One shot colour camera. Is it all worth it on my screen it sure is but I also have more days clear than most to be able to do it.

Thank you, ko you know just how difficult this type of photography is the end result has been worth the effort. I know there is more involved to get the result but in all honesty totally worth the extra effort. Now its a case of try and get through summer heat and not melt.

I think this type of photography is not unlike bonsai teaches you patience alright. It has been a long week building the data to make the shot come to life. It will be a lot slower to get photos but the end result worth the effort. Many thanks you enjoy your week as we melt.....

Another incredible capture Steve do you use star maps to locate your subjects which must be quite difficult

I use some thing you also can look at.

stellarium.org

Its very simple to use shows me where in the sky and movements. I try not to complicate things as its already complicated enough. The program of Nina has a huge memory of targets I just have to write it in RCW38 and it finds it this is the next one you will see.

That's an extraordinary capture Steve. The blue webbing almost looks like a firework or lightning strike. It must be quite amazing to see these images come together in front of you. Well done again. Another ⭐ from me.

Cheers. Herb

Herb as I capture a night I look at the images as they are stacked to see how the images is developing. there are three B/W images that make the base of this up not one is the same as the other two. That kind of makes sense as each show up a different element out in space.

Maybe I should also have here all three shot so everyone can see what looks like nothing comes to life. as I never take the shots further than combine then delete I dont have those images. next shot I am in the process of getting I will take the B/W shots up to Jpeg stage as well. Its is more work but I think the result is worth the effort and I am lucky I tend to have clearer skies than most. I gave the advice to Guy not to go B/W as he has far less clear night and farless night that are not down past -20 that a gear can function in. In his place I would only use a one shot colour camera as the number of nights he has is not really enough.

Many thanks glad you like the shot I think can only get better with more done.

Haha, yes it is easy for me to imagine this image and the like to slowly appear like a new negative being developed in chemicals then seeing it come alive under the enlarger. I know from my own multi shots of the moon how any one photo does not cut-it but it is the sum of all of them that does it. Stacking can be exciting all the same and to see an output like this, gives one the same amount of pleasure as that negative in the tray.

I look forward to more. Cheers. Herb

Herb I am half way through RCW 38 so have started to put together the extra shots so the process will be in front of you. these truly are B/W shots only in Pixinsight the magic happens and the skies come alive with the elements that make up the shot.. I will pull out the stars as well so the RBG v narrow band stars so its all in one place plus final shot. will be another weeks worth of day to get the fine night cloud free.

Doing B/w printing you can understand thing coming alive as you go through all the steps. as I edit I write it down all setting so in the end the final is easier to edit. In all about 2 pages on a A4 pad through all the editing programs. For a photographer that takes photos and does less than 1 min editing those photos Deep space came as a shock no such thing as 1min processing. I know I do far less than Carlos does but I am happy as these are what I set out to take and the quality of shot I wanted.

Keeps the mind very busy and not resting.....
