Pioneer Woman Monument

Pioneer Woman Monument
The change in 40 years is quite a lot but still a very fitting monument to the pioneer women of western Australia. I found out its lit in summer nights rather than all year so we went to capture the same magic as 40 years ago. I hope the new version does the Ladies Justice, with its higher Fountain and new lighting.

PIP 1 the old slide shot from the 70's
PIP 2 the new coloured lights.
PIP 3 By day light.

I would like to add this comment I got on Flickr I believe it says it all

Margaret Leggoe

Been reading a bit of history, this year, and our pioneering women had to be resiliant and tough. My great grandmother lived in the Pilbara in the late 19th Century, travelled almost every year to York to have a baby, then back again to the Pilbara, often without the baby. Only two of nine babies survived their infancy.
Happy Christmas, Steve.

That is true resilience and why this monument was erected and why I wanted to do it some justice....

Very spectacular, Steve. I love the way the fountain softly falls like a curtain behind her.

Thank you a shot I have always wanted to redo . this happens to be one of my fav shots I have ever taken to do justice to the old shot. Did not see many people there taking the shot just me and my wife with me. I am honored by your comment.

A Little knowledge of the shot before helped big time but I have to say the Nikon worked well set up the way " I " wanted the shot not the way Nikon would have taken it. graces my computer screen as I am so impressed.

I am so happy to read your comment as you see just how I wanted to see the shot and do it some justice. Not at all what the camera wanted to take but how I set it up to capture. My wife and I left here very happy as a night well spend out in the dark. I hope I have waited for the Xmas period to post the shot in the hope it gets seen.

Fusun The comment from Flickr says it all, when you think that is a good 1200km on rough roads most likely horse and cart in the sun. The sad part is only two made it and the person who wrote it came from one of those two. It was never a pleasant/easy land Australia much like most other places so the monument to me is a very fitting one "the mother and child" to the fact they made it.

Many thanks for your comment. Steve

An excellent work which allows you to do justice to the old shot and not only, since this seems to be a very important monument to the resilience and strength of women. Your new images seem to remind us the importance of women courage and I personally appreciated it very much. Thank you for sharing.

A great series, Steve, well supported by the Flickr comment. They did indeed do it tough in the old days, before Flying Doctors etc.

George they certainly did as did all the pioneers in truth we have it too easy compared to them.

Thank you its a shot I was very keen to do on digital and to replicate the look of the film. did not think that the fountain would have changed with time but still very happy with the result as a good match . Hope you have a great new year and all the best for 2019
