The Nun in a Storm

The Nun in a Storm
Piha NZ
The rock at the very front is called the "Nun" an attempt to capture the colours of the storm not the colours on Nikon. the camera was in a plastic bag to shoot in the rain storm. an image i walked away very happy with.

Xata, Gisela Plewe, buonacoppi, and 10 other people have particularly liked this photo

Petr this is how i remember the scene but not what the camera produced it. it was shot in the light rain camera and lens in a plastic bag umbrella went west in the strong winds. many thanks

thanks John some times you have to take a chance ( with some preparation) the plastic bag and rubber band worked well.

Great shot Steve, creating the right feeling for a competition such as this for darkness and sobriety. Funny thing is, I too, probably like Andy above have taken many photos just like this of rain laden heavy clouds over our coast, that ending up dark and and sad looking, then quickly discarding them. This comp and your photo puts a whole new light (sic) on the subject. Good luck
Herb

ps Plastic bags and umbrellas are essential parts of our equipment over here.

Herb so true we think that if a shot does not match the camera profile its not a shot

this is another me telling the camera what i want, you should think mood. we forget we are people who control camera's not the other way around( more often than not). i have a plastic bag in my kit these days so know what you mean... many thanks my Friend.

Your link here interest me Steve. Been a while since I saw anything still pointing to our old Panoramio accounts. Another fine shot, by the way. :)

By the coast it seems that it's possible to catch amazing contrasts like this, Steve. I think it could be the white of the waves and the quality of the light + of course an expert behind the lens. Wild and wonderful scenery, and a good offshore wind. I love that grey/green wave being swept backwards.

Amelia i think its the white of the waves that bring this scene Into reality. the colour of the water is typical NZ west coast and so are the clouds rolling from the Tasman Sea. this is not some thing i would do that often but its worth it when you get results like this. many thanks.

Congrats Steve, I knew this was a 'gud-un' for this comp. I need to pull my finger out and play 'catch-up'. I don't fancy my chances though with a possible 'Milky Milky Way Bows' next CWP from you :)
Cheers, Herb

Steve Paxton club has replied to Herb Riddle club
Herb there can never be a milky way let alone a BOW. this is one of those "me" shot and not for others but the two shot fit the bill very well i think most will not see them for what they are. look forward to your next bow or milky way.

Hi again Steve, I mis-read the CWP results and thought this had won. Commiserations my friend. - If I get the chance, you will see some more stars from me Steve :)
