Mallota sp. A type of hoverfly that mimics bumblebees

Mallota sp. A type of hoverfly that mimics bumblebees
I've decided this is not a bumblebee, but is a fly in the genus Mallota.

Wow, that looks nothing like the bumble bees here! We have the round, fat yellow striped kind and very few of those, anymore. He's rather dapper in his pale green and shiny black.

Thanks for your comment, Diane. Yes, this bee is different from our usual bumblebees - she's not as plump.

Thanks, Betty. She isn't our common variety of bumblebee, I think.

I have decided this is not a bumblebee, but a fly in the genus Mallota. So, we don't have this type of bee in Mississippi, either. ;-)

I am always amazed at what nature shows in your state and we don't have.

I am amazed, too. There is such a variety of plants and animals here. I try to let nature take care of things, and she does pretty well.
