Skógafoss - ein mächtiger Wasserfall in Island - a mighty waterfall in Iceland- PiP

Der Skógafoss stürzt – wie auch der Seljalandsfoss ganz in der Nähe – von einer Klippe herab, die einstmals die natürliche Küstenlinie Islands war. Die gesamte Insel hat sich am Ende der letzten großen Eiszeit nach dem Abschmelzen von Gletschern soweit angehoben, dass eine Steilküste in der heutigen Höhe entstand und sich die Küste etwa 5 km entfernt befindet. Der Skógafoss stürzt 62 Meter in einem gewaltigen, 25 Meter breiten Wasservorhang hinab. Die Wassermassen des Skógafoss rauschen frei fallend in einem einzigen Schwall herab, keine Kaskaden, keine Unterbrechungen, nur ein einziger vollkommener Vorhang. Man fühlt sich klein als Mensch in der Nähe dieser Naturgewalt. Ein Näherkommen zum Fotografieren ist praktisch unmöglich.
Rechts vom Wasserfall führt ein Wanderpfad auf eine Beobachtungskanzel, von der man den Wasserfall von oben betrachten kann (siehe PiP).

Skógafoss falls - like Seljalandsfoss nearby - from a cliff that was once Iceland's natural coastline. At the end of the last great ice age, after the melting of glaciers, the entire island rose so high that a steep coast was formed at today's height and the coast is about 5 km away. Skógafoss plunges more than 60 metres in a huge water curtain 25 metres wide. The water masses of Skógafoss fall freely in a single surge, no cascades, no interruptions, only a single perfect curtain. One feels small as a human being close to this force of nature.
To the right of the waterfall, a hiking trail leads to an observation pulpit from where you can see the waterfall from above (see PiP).
