I think this may be a ploy by padlock manufacturers. You've got to make a living somehow, I guess.
(I also wonder whether the weight of accumulated paddocks will one day pull this fence from its moorings and sink it into the water.)

They need to go. It's such an annoying trend in my opinion, but at least there was a benefit from the red padlock. Now where are my bolt cutters? ;-)

They are called 'love locks' Sarah. Lovers who think that, because they fix a padlock on a fence and throw away the key, their love will last forever. The Edinburgh council ought to get a grip and remove them before the fence is wrecked.

Superb capture, love the light and somewhat threatening cloud. What a waste of metal those padlocks are - someone should cut them all off and recycle them.
