Die Lange Bank, die es früher in Gerichten gab, ist vor allem durch die von ihr abgeleitete Redewendung „etwas auf die lange Bank schieben“ bekannt. Die Redewendung bedeutet, eine Entscheidung so lange wie irgend möglich zu verzögern (Wiki).

It also has a very unfortunate meaning in the Urban Dictionary, but I advise you strongly not to look that up. I wish I hadn’t.
