Dewy web on gorse

Dewy web on gorse
A misty morning, and the gorse bushes are covered in webs. Many of these webs may belong to the Autumn Webworm Hyphantria cunea. The species is native to America but has been introduced to Europe where it can be frequent in places.

The larvae feed in communal webs (hence the name 'Webworm')

A world of webs

Looks quiet haunting when the bushes are completely covered, something in the back of my mind tells me the webs are spun by moths.

I think you're right, Maurice, but some of the more open ones are spun by spiders, and I'll post a couple of photos soon to show this.

The gorse bush looks quite spooky covered in misty webs, Amelia. As Wattie Scott once said, "O, what a tangled web...". All the best, Joe

A wonderful trio of images Amelia............the dew-covered webs look amazing and you've captured them in fantastic detail.

I have to say that I prefer the look of the more structured web - as in your 2nd PiP, which is my favourite of the three. I

A great series. The gorse is absolutely festooned. I love the dewdrops and the leaves caught in the gorse and the beautiful cobweb web. It's a great time of year for them.
