#38 Something from my childhood

#38 Something from my childhood
I was born 6 days before Christmas in 1941. My Mum didn't ever talk about the birth, she had to have a C-section, and was very unwell apparently. Inside the envelope was a sixpenny piece dated 1941which sadly has been lost over time, but at least I still have my envelope. I keep this in a box from June 2nd 1953, the coronation date of Queen Elizabeth II. The box used to contain chocolate, which also disappeared. ;-)

The sixpence and the chocolate don't matter. But the handwritten envelope is priceless!

Such wonderful treasure you have been able to keep over the years. Was the sixpence a tradition go be given when a child is born? I know my mother insisited that I have one in my shoe the day I was married, she said it was to bring good wealth over the years. I still have it. It's nice that you have the handwriting, it always seems to bring the writer closer to our memories. Thank you for sharing.

Very sweet memento, Amelia. Poor Mum - imagine how primitive C-sections were at the time, compared to now, not to mention the recovery!
