St.Mary's Church, Knockin

St.Mary's Church, Knockin
The parish church of St Mary was founded by Ralph Le Strange between 1182 and 1195 as a chapel for the castle. It has a Norman chancel, nave and north aisle but the building was heavily restored in 1846. Its graveyard was consecrated in 1817; before then at least some burials took place at Kinnerley.] It contains CWGC-registered war graves of two officers and two soldiers of the British Army of World War 1.

Very nice picture of an old church, very interesting name of the village, immediately I thought about this song from Bob Dylan >Knockin' on Heavens Door!<

A lovely and quaint old church! Victorian restorations seem to be everywhere in Britain;-)

The Victorians were a determined lot, Gudrun. They did a lot for British architecture and engineering. We have lost all those skills I fear.

Very interesting little church with its different colour stone and additions! I must say Knockin' on Heaven's door came to mind with me as well :-)) All the best, Rosa.

The general store is even more interesting, Rosa. It is called The Knockin Shop, and is the cause of much ribaldry. I cannot get a good photo of it - tried many times. ;-)

It faces north, George and usually there are quite a few cars outside. The Knockin Shop has a lot of customers. I wonder if any are disappointed. ;-)

This old church is almost directly opposite The Knockin Shop, Keith. Do you think that sinners went in to repent? ;-)
