St.Andrews skyline from the end of the pier

St.Andrews skyline from the end of the pier
On Sunday afternoons, during term time just after church, students in their scarlet gowns take a traditional walk along the long pier and back The more daring students walking back along a narrow and high part of the wall. It's a lovely sight to see.

If it wasn't windy, Ii used to walk along the top wall of the pier, gripping a tight hold of my dad's hand. I didn't walk on the top of the pier this visit, but did climb the ladder to the top to get this photo.

, Ian Wood, , Schussentäler and 10 other people have particularly liked this photo

You're a poet
And don't know it
But your feet show it
Cos they're longfellows, Andy ;-)

Thanks for the lovely compliment.

Cracking shot Amelia. A great line of sight back to the harbour and cathedral towers, I certainly remember the students in their scarlet gowns. Is that a crane on the edge of the water doing a spot of fishing?
Best wishes, Doug

The scarlet gowns look amazing, Doug. Did you know that the male students don't wear mortar boards even when they graduate, as a protest against the admittance of female students to the University? The bird is a heron, but your eyes are sharp. It'll show up better in my next photo.

We used to walk along this pier most weekends.

Cheers, Amelia

Did not know that, but not too surprising. Some of us don't have enough to worry about:)
All the best, Doug

... such a great shot ... the pier and parallel breakwater off to the side carry the eye to the colorful buildings ... of course the skyline is eye-catching ...

... lovely components throughout, on a gray day ...

Every time we go to Scotland, I'm, drawn back to the town where I was brought up, Wally. It doesn't always please my better half though, as he has to listen to the same reminiscences. I am delighted that you enjoyed this skyline.

Plenty of coffee shops in town, Gudrun - so no problems there.

Wonderful photo, Amelia. It has been far too long since we were in Scotland. Must go back and have an excuse in the fact that we have a daughter in Belfast.

You'd only have a short journey from Belfast to Scotland, Ron, and St.Andrews is well worth a visit. Bring your golf clubs. :-)
