Montgomery Canal. Bridge 82A

A most interesting photo walk along the canal! This bridge here could be in Holland- the style looks Dutch:-)

I'm not sure if there was any Dutch influence here, Gudrun, Many British canals in the Industrial
Revolution were originally built with lifting bridges like this. As road traffic increased in the 18th and 19th centuries more arch bridges were built.

This canal was used to transport coal and limestone from one area to another using horse drawn barges.

So the English and Dutch simply came to similar solutions - because it worked best:-)

This a a cracking capture of the bridge reflected on the ice. A very good series of canal images.

Thank you, Doug. We quite often take a walk along this canal on a Sunday afternoon, mainly because there is a cafe that serves reasonable coffee at bridge 80. ;-)

Lovely series of bridges Amelia. This and Bridge 81 are my favourites - we don't have this type in the Black Country.
