Colour variation in limpets

Colour variation in limpets
Walking along a beach in Norway, I noticed that there was a high proportion of limpet shells, which showed an amazing variety of colours and patterns on the inside. I spent a lovely 30 minutes or so arranging them like this. Simple things please simple minds.

Gabi Lombardo, Juleann, Tone, Ron Hanko and 25 other people have particularly liked this photo

I love how you've arranged them. In the thumbnail they almost look like a peacock feather, or a paisley scarf.

I think I might start a group called shells/things found on the beach. Would you be interested?

Thank you, Andy. I was lost in my own little world and thoroughly enjoyed it. When I was a child in St.Andrews, I was on the beach almost every day, and used to collect shells and paint them.

I still get totally absorbed by rock pools and tiny mountain streams! I often watch them for hours.
I say it is not time wasted but time fulfilled; a very necessary brain re-charge!!!

Limpets are pretty dull on the outside, John. But the inside is fascinating..

Oh, this really is lovely.....(it's a bit of a 'why didn't I think of that?' type of shot)

I'm a bit of a daydreamer, Judith, and sometimes wonder how I managed to hold down a job for 50 years. Pottering around like this really appeals to me.

Thank you, Jean. When i was a child in St,Andrews, I used to 'chap' different coloured pieces of sandstone and put them in a milk bottle. All the other children would be playing ball games.

I look as closely at shells as you do at planes and trains, Steve. As you may well imagine, Adrian gets a tad impatient at times. ;-)
Many thanks for your lovely compliment. There would be no planes or trains to distract you here.
