Lovely scene with pussy cat having a soft cushion
Mandi took this picture yesterday while she was out and about - she just couldn't resist..... The pussy cat didn't want to lie on the concrete tiles so found this lovely dog asleep and clambered onto his back. It was nice and comfy for him and so the two were dozing in the sun. I think it's a gorgeous picture.

Hoar frost on a tarpaulin looks brilliant in the sun
Well today's theme is a good one - it's making my little grey cells work overtime and the poor little things are still recovering from last time!!!!!!!! So my contribution may not be to everyone's idea for today's theme, but it's the best I can do!!! Hoar frost on a tarpaulin in the sunshine makes it look brilliant. The raindrops on this fir leaf are brilliant.…

  • Fred and his wife have been and cleared that awful flower bed.............

This top lawn is getting rather overgrown
Well Fred and his wife have been today and after two hours stated that they had done the flower bed. They only manage two hours each visit so they can spread themselves with other people who want their help. This is how it looked yesterday................. As you can see from the photo it certainly looks better. View from the other end yesterday................. This is how it looks now............. So when I'd seen this, I decided to see if I could take any photos…

  • A little glimpse of my home town...........

    The new bridge at Bideford
I realised that since I joined iPernity, albeit only a few weeks, that I have made some new friends who don't really know a lot about me or where I live. So I thought I'd show a few photos of my home town. This is a view of our new bridge which is near me. It's not a bad bridge and it doesn't spoil the view at all. This is the old bridge built in the 1300's. It has 24 separate arches which are of different sizes as the merchants of that time paid for their own arch, and obviously som…

  • It was a beautiful day yesterday - today - NOT!!!!

    A truly springtime garden
You'd never have known that yesterday was a lovely warm sunny day by looking out the window today!! It's overcast and the wind is very strong. It's gone back to being cold again, so that's a bummer. I was going shopping today and so I had to scramble my way through the gate in the fence to get to my neighbour's house to go shopping. Her garden was looking a picture - so full of primroses, it's unbelievable..... and so many daffodils too. I just had to take photos of it. You can…

I've just tried to access my Multiply account which was fine a couple of days ago and wanted to get more photos off there, but there is a big page saying that the Multiply social site has now officially closed down, but we are welcome to access their Indonesian or Phillipine sites. Oh well, it's gone on for 3 months longer than we expected but we did have fun over there didn't we? Luckily most of my friends came over here and I've met other lovely people here too. Onwards and upwards as they…

  • Have been thinking of cats I've had over the years

Fred with Zisi & Pani when they were tiny
I have been blessed with having cats around me nearly all my life. My Mum used to let her cats have kittens and I used to have the kittens if she hadn't found good homes for them. She understood that there were a lot of unwanted cats, but people used to ask her if they could have a kitten when there were some ready, which in a way, made her think that maybe she could let her cat have kittens. My home is quite large really as is the garden. I am lucky to live on the outskirts of the town, so…

    Old photo of Appledore quayside
Do you remember I put up some photos a week or so ago of Appledore? Well if you don't have a look at my blogs and you'll soon see them................ I came across some old photos and thought you might like to see this one of how the quayside used to look like about 150 years ago............ This is what it looked like then and this is what it looks like now........... Then I found a photo of my parents' shop in the 1960's........... And what it looks like now......…

Engagement photo of Tony & Stevie
I've just had a phone call from my son with some wonderful news - well in fact it's lots of news really....... Firstly he said that he and his fiancee Stevie are going for adoption. She's 45 and he's 43 and they've been trying for quite a while now to become pregnant, but nothing has happened - I did tell him that they should be experts at it by the amount of practising they've been doing!!!! LOL Anyway they want to have a family and so are going down the adoption route and are quite open…

My driveway in winter of 2011
Well if we can believe all the things the meteorologists say, then we can expect snow soon. I must say that it's gone really cold now and snow doesn't seem to be too far fetched, but memories of when it was really snowy in 2011 are still here in my mind.... This was the view out of my bathroom window that morning we all woke up to thick snow. Now some of you might say - why does she remember it so well - well where I live in the UK, the climate is very mild and the jet stream is close to u…

    What greeted me this morning
This morning when I opened the back door this is what greeted me........... I was really quite concerned - where was the carcass I asked myself.......... I did go out and about looking for a bald seagull. There was nothing. No feathers in the house, so I don't think Pippin is the culprit - I think the seagull took refuge in my porch and saw off the cat. Apparently there are two young cats just moved in next door - the other half of my house, so maybe they've come to introduce themselves.…

  • Have almost finished my neighbour's quilt - or so I thought!!!!!!!!!!

Almost finished with the hand quilting or so I thought.....
Well I'd measured the blocks for my neighbour's quilt and it seemed to be the right size - BUT............ I hadn't realised how much hand quilting was going to "shrink" the quilt!!!!!! I've lost over 12" all over - so I'm going to have to make 10 more blocks!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrr As you can see on the left - I am still doing some quilting on the bottom row - or so I thought ...... You can see how much the quilting has gathered the material - which is why it's gone so much smaller tha…

Flames make the room all cosy
It's been another cold day here, although we have been so lucky compared to some other parts of the country. I live in the south west of England and it's a rare occasion that snow actually visits us. I know the last couple of years or so have been the exception to the rule and we have had quite a dollop of snow down here, I still am surprised to see any of the white stuff. So even though we don't actually have snow, it still becomes very cold here. The temperatures are well down almost in…

  • Thank you all for your lovely comments...............

Just wanted to say a big thank you for your lovely comments on my quilt. In fact it's spurred me on to thinking about starting the next one tomorrow - this time I really do hope I'll finish it for Christmas - I mean I have almost 2 months don't I? Should be okay then. Again thanks - it means a lot to me. xx

Just a quickie to say that I heard from Mandi this afternoon. She's had the operation but it wasn't as bad as she'd feared. They had to take some intestines out too, but nothing near the colon and no lymph nodes touched. She's had the whole lot taken away and hopefully all the cancer was inside. Apparently they'd kept her in the Intensive Care ward all day until this afternoon. She was in a wheelchair and sitting outside with Dogan having a coffee and a cigarette!!!!! She can't have any food as…

I am a Seenager. (Senior teenager?) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50 years later I don’t have to go to school or work. I get an allowance (pensions) I have my own place. I don’t have a curfew. I have a driver’s licence and my own car. I have ID that gets me into bars The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant. And I don’t have acne. Life is great.

Looking through the snow at the ice particles
Well we've not had an awful lot of icy weather in my part of the world, but in 2010 we did - boy did we!!!! We had a really bitter hoar frost and it made beautiful patterns on ordinary mundane items...... Looking up through the snow at the ice crystals.............. The ice made some beautiful patterns on the porch window................ This was a fantastic pattern - it stayed for nearly four days - so beautiful.............. Even on a knot in the branch - the ice made it look s…

Hiya folks, just got back from my daughter's home. I went to visit her yesterday for a bit of a knees-up. Her friends had arranged a hen-night for her, as they had been told that she will be getting married when she goes out to Turkey next week. Yes - you heard right - married!!!!!!!!!! The difference in her for the last four months has brought back my old Mandi. She is giggling, smiling, laughing and looking forward to the future, something I never thought I would ever see again. Her ex-husb…

    Mandi talking to Boo
Tony and Stevie came up today for our Christmas Day [a day late] together. Yesterday they spent with her parents, and today is my turn. We had to do another Christmas meal, but luckily Mandi did most of it - I'm just about whacked. I get really angry that ordinary things exhaust me and it's not fair on everyone else around. I do get frustrated but I'm fine when I'm sitting down, but when I get up - things really change for me. Now when I'm knackered, my brain goes into meltdown too and I have bi…

    Mandi with her woolly hat
Well today the wind has really died down and it's not as cold as it has been. The rain is only gentle and so it's a much better day altogether. I really wish that I had been able to get out to see the force of the sea, but of course Mandi had gone back to her house and therefore took the car. Typical eh? The annoying thing is - my neighbour Ann rang me yesterday to tell me that Peter, her husband, had been down to the coast to see the sea. He didn't take any photos - he didn't think about it…
